2026 AG Studio Launch Week

  |   AG Studio

Launch Week wraps today. What a week it’s been!

We've packed so much in: a new major AG Studio version, a Figma design system, the Studio Agent Framework, a 28x faster data engine, a Discord server, and announced a hackathon with PayPal. Plus, a whole load of events.

There's a lot to cover, so here’s a quick summary…

🔥 Release: AG Studio 3, dashboards for humans and AI

AG Studio 3 shipped with a Calculations UI, full canvas Undo & Redo, Server-side Pagination, and the new Studio Agent Framework.

🔥 Release: Introducing the AG Studio Agent Framework

Josh Hobson, our engineer behind the framework, walks through the thinking that shaped it: why bundling your harness with a model vendor is a trap, how Agents and Users end up with equal power in Studio, and why "just don't give the LLM tools it shouldn't have" beats prompting an agent not to misbehave.

🔥 Release: Introducing AG Studio Figma Design System

Mark Durrant, who leads Design at AG Grid, gives us an overview of AG Studio Figma Design System, which ships light and dark themes as variable modes, uses Figma's new slots to keep panel components flexible, and the variable names map 1:1 to AG Studio's theming API, so a colour change in Figma means exactly the same thing in code.

🔷 Perspective: Who Owns the Harness?

Josh Hobson again, this time zooming out from AG Studio entirely to ask a question we think matters a lot right now: who should own your agent harness, the model provider, the product, or the user?

🔷 Perspective: From Embedded Dashboards to Programmable Analytics

Michael Romey, who heads up Business Systems at LAIKA, wrote about programmable analytics: how once an application can define a dashboard in code, AI is no longer a chatbot bolted onto a report and becomes another way to decide what the application should build.

Each new version roughly doubles benchmark performance, culminating in a 28.4x improvement (projected) for the upcoming release.

🔷 Engineering deep dive: Adventures in Data Engine Optimisation

Steph Meslin-Weber, AG Studio's data engine engineer, wrote up how it got 28.4x faster since v1.0.0 by reordering query plans so cross-filters get applied before a join instead of after, and custom memory arenas and pools. Powerful stuff!

🔷 Deep dive: Grids + Charts != Dashboards

James Swinton-Bland built the same dashboard twice: by hand and in AG Studio in just 30 lines to show exactly where a hand-rolled dashboarding framework costs you.

🔷 How-to: 1 prompt, 88 seconds: I added a new chart type to AG Studio dashboard

Adam Wang, Technical Product Manager for AG Studio, vibe-coded a brand new AG Charts quadrant chart into a live AG Studio dashboard in 88 seconds flat, one prompt – yup, any custom widget hooks in with just a typed component and a registry entry.

The quadrant, 88 seconds in. Sixteen products by revenue and growth, sized by customers, split at the medians into four named regions.

🔷 Tinkering: WebMCP in AG Studio Dashboards

Yet more from Josh Hobson with a piece on WebMCP, the emerging protocol bringing MCP-style tools into the browser, showing a live AG Studio dashboard built and queried entirely by a WebMCP-enabled agent that brings its own tokens instead of costing you any.

🥹 Community: Meet us on Discord!

We've wanted this for a while: AG Grid finally has a Discord for AMAs, office hours, early event announcements, ticket giveaways, pet pictures, and everything else that isn't a bug report or feature request (GitHub, and Zendesk for enterprise users, still handle those).

🥹 Workshop: AG Studio x Information is Beautiful

We invited David McCandless of Information is Beautiful (yes, the man himself) to lead a workshop on data visualisation to a crowd of fifty engineers, data analysts and designers.

🥹 Recorded session: Self-service dashboards. 30 lines of code

Watch a data analyst and an engineer rebuild the same dashboard twice, once by hand-wiring AG Grid and AG Charts, once in AG Studio, so you can see exactly what changes when the requirements shift. Definitely worth a watch.

👾 Hackathon: PayPal and AG Studio

We close out the week by opening submissions for Build What's Next with AI + PayPal, a six-week hackathon where AG Grid and Bryntum are event partners, and we've got own prize categories: Best Use of AG Studio and Best Use of Bryntum 🔥

Thank you

None of this happens without the people who actually showed up this week: our amazing Engineers and Designers, everyone who joined Discord, everyone who asked inquisitive questions during the live sessions, or just read one of these posts all the way through.

Thank you for building with us.

We can't wait to see what you build next 💙
