You can use keyboard shortcuts to work in Studio without a mouse.
They work while your focus is inside Studio. If you tab or click into the surrounding application, its own shortcuts take over.
Layout Interactions Copy Link
In the layout, you can use these keys:
- ⇥ Tab / ⇧ Shift+⇥ Tab - Move focus between widgets on the canvas.
- ↑/↓/←/→ - Move focus to the nearest widget in that direction.
- ↵ Enter - Move focus into the focused widget, if it has content you can focus, such as the cells of a grid.
- ⎋ Esc - When focus is within a widget, move focus back to the widget container. In a chart, the first press hides a tooltip that is showing; see Charts.
- ␣ Space - Select the focused widget, for example to show its details in the Compose Panel.
- Delete / ⌫ Backspace - Delete the focused widget (Edit Mode only).
- ⇧ Shift + ↑/↓/←/→ - Move the focused widget (Edit Mode only).
- ⌥ Alt + ↑/↓/←/→ - Resize the focused widget (Edit Mode only).
In Edit Mode, hold a modifier key while you drag a widget with the pointer to change what happens:
- ⇧ Shift + drag - Duplicate the widget at the drop location.
- ⌥ Alt + drag - Swap the widget with the one at the drop location.
When focus is within a widget, ⇥ Tab / ⇧ Shift+⇥ Tab keep cycling focus within that widget until you press ⎋ Esc.
Try these shortcuts in the example below.
Charts Copy Link
When a data point in a chart has focus, its tooltip is shown.
- ⎋ Esc - Hide the tooltip. Focus stays on the data point, and the tooltip shows again when you move focus to another data point.
- ⎋ Esc - When no tooltip is showing, move focus from the chart back to the widget container. So after hiding a tooltip, press it a second time to do this.
Undo & Redo Copy Link
These work anywhere in Studio, unless your application has turned them off:
- ⌃ Ctrl/⌘ Cmd + Z - Undo the last change to the report.
- ⌃ Ctrl/⌘ Cmd + ⇧ Shift + Z - Redo.
Undo and redo cover changes to the report itself:
- Widgets and their layout on the page.
- Filters, including cross-filter selections made by clicking a Widget.
- Edits to fields and calculations.
While you are typing in a text field, these shortcuts undo your typing instead.
Undo and redo bring the change back into view: Studio switches to the page where the change was made and reselects the Widget it affected.
Both shortcuts work in Edit Mode and View Mode. If you make a new change after an undo, the changes that were waiting to be redone are lost.
Studio keeps your last 100 changes, even when you switch between Edit Mode and View Mode. Your developer can change how many changes are kept, and can clear the history when you switch modes. Studio has no Undo or Redo buttons of its own, but your application may provide them.
Panels Copy Link
With a panel's title focused:
- ↵ Enter / ␣ Space - Collapse or expand the panel.
- ← / → - Resize the panel by moving its edge. Hold ⇧ Shift to move it in larger steps.
In the Data Panel:
- ↑ / ↓ - Move focus up and down the list of fields.
- ↵ Enter / ␣ Space - Select the focused field and show its options in the Compose Panel.
Context Menu Copy Link
Your developer can add a menu that opens when you right-click in Studio. When your application has one:
- The context menu key, or ⇧ Shift + F10 - Open the menu from the keyboard.
- ⌃ Ctrl/⌘ Cmd + right-click - Open the browser's own menu instead.
On a Mac, ⌃ Ctrl + click also opens the browser's own menu. Your developer can set Studio's menu to open in both cases instead.
Field Configuration Copy Link
When you configure a widget, each field is shown as a pill with action buttons. With a field pill focused:
- ↑ / ↓ - Move focus between field pills.
- ⇧ Shift + ↑/↓ - Reorder the focused pill within its group.
- ↵ Enter - Move focus to the pill's action buttons (such as aggregation and remove).
- ⇥ Tab / ⇧ Shift+⇥ Tab - Move between a pill's action buttons.
- ⎋ Esc - Return focus from an action button to the pill.
Filters Copy Link
With a filter card focused in the Filters Panel:
- ↑ / ↓ - Move focus between filter cards.
- ⇧ Shift + ↑/↓ - Reorder the focused filter.
- ↵ Enter - Move focus into the focused filter.
- ← / → - Collapse or expand the focused filter.
- ⎋ Esc - Return focus from within a filter to its card.
